Hard Corps: Uprising is a run and gunvideo game developed by Arc System Works and published by Konami for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. The game was released digitally on Xbox Live Arcade on February 16, 2011 and on the PlayStation Network on March 15, 2011.[2] In Hard Corps: Uprising, the player assumes the role of Colonel Bahamut, along with other main characters. Konami has added three additional player characters (Sayuri, Harley Daniels, and Leviathan) via downloadable content.

Hard Corps: Uprising is the thirteenth installment in the Contra series and serves as a spin-off to Contra: Hard Corps as well as the prequel to the original Contra. Kenji Yamamoto, the producer, has said that the intention is to make the Hard Corps series into a new franchise.[3]

Gameplay[edit]

Hard Corps: Uprising features two main game modes, Rising and Arcade. In Rising Mode, players can collect points throughout levels which are then used to purchase various upgrades and customization for weapons, armor and character abilities. Rising Mode also features a health bar, similar to the Japanese version of Contra: Hard Corps, allowing the player to take more than one hit before losing a life. Arcade Mode is a more difficult game mode in which the power-up shops are removed.

Many new moves have been added. The character can dash, dash in mid-air, double-jump and deflect enemy projectiles by bouncing them back. Additional moves can also be purchased in Rising Mode.

Weapons include the standard rifle, the machine gun, the spread shot, the crash gun (shoots arcing grenades), the ripple gun (acts like a force field when sprinting), the heat gun (shoots large blasts of fire), the chain laser (homes in on enemy targets) and the Katana (unleashes a wide arc of energy onto the targets). As in Contra III: The Alien Wars, the player can carry two weapons and switch between them at any time. By collecting the same weapon several times the player will improve its firing rate and power. Other weapon upgrades are available in Rising Mode as well.

Plot[edit]

In 2613, twenty years before the events of the original Contra, the world is ruled by an empire known as the Commonwealth, under the reign of Tiberius. Neighboring nations have suffered under the Commonwealth's oppression and resistance forces rise across the land. Little singham cartoon. However, so many resistance fighters have fallen to the overwhelming might of the empire, that their strength is now severely diminished. A group of elite soldiers rise through the ranks of the resistance and band together to execute a desperate plan. The leader of this group is the war hero Bahamut.

Hard Corps: Uprising was generally well received. Daemon Hatfield of IGN gave the game an 8.5/10 saying 'If you've ever been into Contra or Metal Slug or action movies, Hard Corps: Uprising is for you'.[6] He criticized Arcade Mode for being too punishing but praised Rising Mode for its upgrade system which decreased difficulty for players. He also praised the detail and art direction of the game, enjoying the anime feel of the game and the many things happening in the background (like the giant snake boss moving in the background in Level 1). Nathan Meunier of GameSpot gave the game a 7/10 saying 'If the unmistakable opening prog-metal guitar riff and the frenzy of bullets that erupt from the get-go aren't a dead giveaway, the game's sadistic difficulty should be enough to jog your memory'.[7] His main issue was the brutal gameplay and multiple cheap shots encountered during the game. He advises players that they should not go solo unless they are hard core players. He too praised the art style, saying 'The beautiful hand-drawn art style has a pleasant anime vibe that updates the otherwise classic run-and-gun gameplay. Not only does each stage offer a stark visual contrast from the previous one, but they also throw in new and unexpected twists that break up the flow.' Contra Central said it's highly creative game that changes constantly and keeps you wake. They also pointed that hand-drawn art style, which has a pleasant anime vibe, gives new life to classic run-and-gun gameplay. [8]

Regions Tower known as One Indiana Square, is a 36-story building at 211 North Pennsylvania Street in downtown Indianapolis, United States. It is used by various companies for offices; the building opened in 1970 as the headquarters of Indiana National Bank. The building now serves as the Indiana headquarters for Regions Financial Corporation; the building carries the Regions name and logo. The tower rises from a multi-story base and covers the southern half of the block bounded by Pennsylvania, New York and Ohio streets; the façade is covered by dark-tinted glass beneath the tower and recessed to allow an covered promenade on the west and portions of the north and south sides. The promenade roof is supported by marble-clad square columns on its exterior; the eastern portion of the base houses a parking garage. Original plans called for two additional towers on the northern half of the block, one of twenty stories in the northeast corner and one of twelve stories in the northwest corner, but neither was constructed.

The first block of Massachusetts Avenue ran diagonally through the block, but was vacated for the project. The Knights of Pythias Building, a flatiron-shaped building at the corner of Massachusetts and Pennsylvania, was among those demolished to allow for the building's construction. In the mid- to late-1990s, building owners installed a new façade and exterior lighting after weather damage to the building in 1978, 1980, 1990; the building underwent another exterior remodeling after damage by tornado-strength winds on April 2, 2006. Owners of One Indiana Square have invested in new LED lighting system; the latest facade is a light blue curtain wall, by Gensler of San Francisco, transparent. Adam Opel was the founder of the German automobile company Adam Opel AG. Adam Opel was born on 9 May 1837 to Wilhelm, a locksmith, his wife in Rüsselsheim. Adam studied with his father until the age of 20; the pass enabled him to be an apprentice locksmith in Belgium, in Liege and Paris, where he arrived in mid-1858. While in Paris, he took an interest in an innovation—the sewing machine. In 1859, he went to work for a maker of sewing machines to get a closer look. Adam's younger brother, George came to Paris to absorb this new technology. In 1862, Adam returned to Rüsselsheim. Adam's uncle offered him an unused cow stall in Rüsselsheim to set up a workshop in which to build his own sewing machine. In 1863, George returned from France to help in the slow production of the machines. In April 1867, Adam was preparing to build a new two-story factory near the railroad station, when his father died. Adam attached a new home to his factory and married the daughter of a guest-house and brewery family, Sophie Scheller.

Sophie brought with her a substantial dowry, which she invested in the Opel plant. Sophie convinced two of her sisters to invest as well, a steam engine was purchased, helping to expand the firm. In 1870 a new sewing machine called, named after Opel's wife. In the 1880s, sewing machine production jumped ahead, with steady expansion of the plant, by 1899 more than a half million machines had been made; the milestone of one million machines was reached in 1911, the same time a fire destroyed much of the plant. The Opel brothers decided to give up sewing machine production, which by this time was much more commodified, thus commercially unrewarding, than when they had started in the business. Looking to move upmarket in their manufacturing efforts, they decided to try to produce the more profitable products of bicycles and automobiles. Adam and Sophia had five sons. Together with Sophie, who became main shareholder after the death of her husband, they would pilot the Opel enterprises down the automotive path.

Bicycles came into the picture when Adam's curiosity was stirred by a high-wheeled bicycle he saw in Paris. Intrigued, he ordered a set of parts from England. After putting together the bike Adam tried it with disastrous results, he decided he'd have nothing further to do with those 'bone breakers.' Two things changed his mind: he found them easy to sell, with a greater profit than he could earn with the sewing machines. By 1886 the Opels had made a bicycle of their own, the following year young Carl went to England to study the new industry and bring back samples of the latest designs; this led to serious production of cycles, including low-wheeled and three-wheeled types, by the end of 1887. The growing bands of enthusiasts for this new locomotion knew they could count on Opel for the newest and best ideas in cycling in Germany; every one of the Opel brothers was an prize-winning racer. Adam Opel never lived to see the automobiles built by the company, he died in 1895. His will set up a new organization for the company, in which his widow Sophie held the primary interest and his two eldest sons had lesser shares.

Their first crisis was a sudden deflation of the boom in bicycles in 1898, a collapse caused by the over-expansion among the many makers of cycles. They managed to carry on. New products were introduced that kept on the more than 1,500 employees, most of whom had grown up in the industry with Opel; the bicycle plant expanded becoming the largest in the mid-1920s, with a capacity of 4,000 cycles a day, with innovative equipment such as automatic painting and plating equipment in halls pressurized for ideal cleanliness. By the 1930s, times had changed. In a series of transactions between 1929 and 1931, the Opel family sold their business, Adam Opel AG, to General Motors Corporation, of which it became a subsidiary. In 1936, Opel sold its bicycle plant to NSU in Neckarsulm. Under the company's many different names, 2.5 million bikes had been produced in all.
