Reviews and Showcases > Audiosurf 2
Preface This is not a review, this is will just be a list of features that are exclusive in Audiosurf 2, it's similarity with Audiosurf 1, and features that are missing/not yet in Audiosurf 2. Once Audiosurf 2 has been released from early access, I will be updating this as soon as I can as well preserving the format but adding a review format accordingly. |
Audiosurf 2 Exclusive Features:- Integrated web browser (apart from steam overlay)
Although Audiosurf 1 has a web browser, it wasn't integrated in the same layout of the game
The Featured Scoreboard changes ???, not sure how it is picked. Probably picked by the highest playcount of a song | A totally whole new mode where you need to jump the waves and perform tricks while in the air
- Workshop - User-submitted mods as well as creating your own mode
Workshop is enabled for Audiosurf 2 and it features custom modes created by other players
- Custom skins for a mode (if it allows to)
Workshop also features skins, although some modes will restrict you to it's intented skin so it wouldn't break the experience on the mode.
EDIT 1: Apparently, you can mod skins in Audiosurf 1, but It is gonna be a global change and not per mode

| Audiosurf 2 will shuffle all songs on which folder directory it currently knows
No Idea how this works as I don't have a SoundCloud account, but apparently you can sync your SoundClound account and get music from there directly
If you have a nice collection of songs that has an album art attached to the metadata, then Audiosurf 2 will also load this the picture in the right hand side and render it in semi-opaque look
- Database Caching of songs.
Audiosurf 2 will remember the songs contained in the folder that you previously opened/visited before so the next you open it, Audiosurf 2 will just look at the database file instead of reading the metadata again. Excellent feature to have especially for me since I store my music in a NAS drive and these NAS drives has a horrible ms delay and bandwidth to give you the needed data through the network.
Audiosurf 2 will only update the database once it find a difference in the data modification.

| No need to create a separate Audiosurf 1 account for leaderboards
- Because of this, steam avatars are included in scoreboards
Avatars are beside your name in the leaderboards. Although you can't click the picture yet and maybe check the steam account of that player and 'stalk' him 3:D
- Seperate scoreboards for each and every mode.
I really don't like this chance in Audiosurf 2. In Audiosurf 1, if you feel that there's not enough players playing a certain song, then dividing the leaderboards to each mode will even make the leaderboards like a post apocalyptic scenery.
- Block hit detection ignores sidehits (AKA sideswipe)
In Audiosurf 1, you can still get blocks if you touch them in the side. In audiosurf 2, it doesn't do this anymore. This is a big advantage for puzzle players like me in fast and high trafficked songs. It's really easy to mess up and get unnecessary blocks when you can side-swipe blocks compared to not. The downside is, mono players often rely on this tactic so there's a seperate mode for mono called 'Mono Sideswipe' in the workshop
Apparently a lossless codec for Itunes and apple devices. Don't really know about them. But hey, more codecs to being supported is good amiright?
- Up to 4 players in local coop mode
Some mods are already out there ready to accommodate 4 players simultaneously, this is seen in the control settings in Audiosurf 2
Song being search needs to be saved to Audiosurf 2 database first though or it won't find it. Meaning that you need to let Audiosurf 2 discover it by 'Autofind Music' option in settings or you need to at least visit the folderwhere ti stored and let it be cached at least once (Cached means that the metadata of the song is read)
| Sample end score Screenshot Audiosurf 2 Launcher setting screen |
| Audiosurf 2 requires you to have a internet connection to submit the scores, It won't record your scores locally if you play it on offline mode or failed to submit the score
- No Controller support in menus
Controller support is working when you are playing a song, but doesn't work in menus (A.K.A controller simulating mouse movements)
- Traffic indicator at start
One thing that Pointman players and other puzzle players that want to know is traffic congestion, too much traffic congestions makes it annoying and hard to do a certain score. So you can avoid a song if you see that the traffic congestion is high or not upfront
Not yet properly working until powerups are implemented in mods
- Scaling mode difficulty (casual, pro, elite)
Most of the puzzle modes are in mods section, hopefully when the official modes is released, they are in scaling difficulty like in Audiosurf 1
No Achievements implemented yet in early access for Audiosurf 2
- Personal profile page of stats and songs played
Web stat page is missing for Audiosurf 2, although I'm willing to bet that this will be connected to your steam profile instead
I've been competing with some of my friends and this will be a great feature if they did beat my score or not. Although this will be not that 'important' now since scores are divided every mode which is disappointing.
- Extended statistics in scoreboard
- Audiosurf radio
- Ironmode
- Medals (Bronze, Silver, Gold)
- Loops and Banks
- Popup file browser
- Color block customization
- last.fm
- previous and next button indicators at scoreboard screen
